Playtime

Birmans, kittens or adult, like to play. Generally, the morning or early evening (following afternoon naps) is the best time to play if you want an enthusiastic response, especially in an adult cat. We discourage roughhousing, as this can make the kitten too aggressive. If the kitten kicks at your hand or bites at your fingers, say "NO," blow in its face, remove your hand or put the kitten down and continue play at a later time.

Soft toys:

Beware of toys with easily removed pieces/parts (i.e. mice constructed with eyes that are glued on) and yarn toys that can unravel can block or wrap around the intestines. Beware of toys that can be swallowed.

A cat tease with feathers is great exercise but don’t leave the kitten and the toy unattended; they love to eat the feathers. A leather bugy whip with feathers or a sock attached to end is another durable, favorite in my house.

The best toy that I have found is a "Laser Pointer". The kittens love to chase and catch the point created by the laser. This is great exercise!! Do NOT point the laser light in the kittens eyes this can cause retinal damage.

The cats also like to play hide and seek in empty boxes, brown bags or tunnels - cut a small whole in the side of an empty carton or box and the kittens will play and sleep there.

If the kitten is left alone during the day or for an extended period, the kitten may be lonely. I leave the TV or radio on an alarm so that it will go on and off periodically through the day. The voices will give comfort to the kitten. Remember that what your kitten will need and demand quite a bit of attention. Plenty of attention love and play will result in a companion who will give years of pleasure.
