ENCOUNTER

We met beside the quiet shore

We know each other not and yet,

though we should never meet again

the greeting passed I won't forget

Calm eyes gazed into mine,

The held the wisdom of the old and gray,

A kinship felt by each I knew,

Each understood what each would say.

Alone walked he, alone walked I,

There by the water, shimmering gray,

His feline ghost will wait for me

when I go walking by the bay.
